Soma

Soma (Mosaica soma) are the outlier when it comes to Mosaics. By default, Somas are completely helpless, resembling what can be described as a yellow slug, averaging around 30 cm in length. Their senses aren’t much better, with the vision of a Soma being equivalent to 144p resolution. You’d expect more from a species directly descendant from Vespers, as Somas are, more or less, corrupted Vespers, with the base code handling Vesper behaviour is still integrated within Somas, with the outer Soma code being a sort of ‘vessel’, all the while the two lines of code run intertwined. This is also what allows Vespers to take control of a dead Soma and become a Vulture.

But Somas have a way of overcoming their disability. A full Soma is composed out of two components, its Heart (the organism itself) and its Shell. The Shell is a mechanical humanoid piloted by the Heart from inside its chest, from where it extends numerous filaments across the chassis, taking full sensory and motor control. Shells are typically 1.9 m in height, their skin made of a flexible white alloy, allowing their face to display all sorts of expressions. Their hair is made out of a silver material that imitates real hair, and their eyes are constructed out of LED screens displaying a yellow iris when controlled.

Full Somas are much more capable than as as a base Heart, their senses being regularly better than human baseline, and even granting them better locomotion and communication capabilities. However, damage received by the Shell will transfer to the Heart as a side effect of the connection method, meaning sufficient external damage can kill the Soma. Shells can be upgraded and repaired, and in some cases even replaced entirely, although the procedure is rather unconventional and will affect the Soma’s psyche. Damage to the head, while not always lethal, can cause the Soma to enter a catatonic state, as all of their senses and motoric functions run first through the head. And obviously, a direct hit to the Heart can kill a Soma instantly.

Vexers are a 1% anomaly, where Somas retain the Vesper code required for the synthesis of Varium, allowing them to use Vectors. In all other cases, Somas completely lack this code, barring them from using any kind of Vector.
