Mosaica mimisis

Mimics are a species of character actors through and through. By default, Mimics appear as light-blue humanoids, roughly 2 m in height, with a generally gangly look, their only real defining feature being their glowing eyes. They are openly hostile, and will attack unprovoked.

Their name refers to their their defining ability: mimicking other beings. Mimics have an extraordinary memory, and an even keener eye for detail. They will analyse even the most minute of behavioural traits of a being, almost imperceptible to the naked eye, and catalogue it in their extensive memory banks. The body of a Mimic is polymorphic, allowing it to shapeshift into the being it just observed and behave like them, sound like them. They can even switch between what they’re copying on the fly, adapting to the situation.

This ability does fall short in some aspects, however. While the body plan and shape of a Mimic can alter, its surface will always appear as a rough, faceted, light-blue crystal, allowing others to easily identify it. Mimics are also known to lack higher thought. They’re dumb as rocks, they don’t actually understand what they mimic. Any and all signs of higher thought, such as language, are entirely replicated. If the being they mimic doesn’t have a trait, Mimics won’t have it either. They’re also incapable of mixing mimicry profiles, and when facing a challenge, they will change to the most convenient form for the situation, without further analysis of their environment. This can be used to bait them into assuming a form that can be taken advantage off, since they will also copy the weaknesses of a being and behave as if it exists, even thought they themselves might lack this weakness.
