Infrared is an operational department within the governing structure of the Pale, tasked with internal surveillance, civic enforcement, and the maintenance of containment systems.
Core Responsibilities

Citywide Surveillance
- Infrared continuously monitors the status, movement, and integrity of the Chromatican City, deploying both human agents and automated systems.
- Reports generated by Infrared provide real-time situational awareness to the Executive and department heads.

Civic Law Enforcement
- As the city’s primary policing body, Infrared agents respond to standard incidents such as civil unrest, criminal activity and interpersonal disputes.
- Agents are trained in non-lethal conflict resolution, though authorised to escalate under directive.
- Incidents involving high-risk threats are escalated to Ultraviolet.
Organisational Hierarchy
Infrared is directed by a single Administrator, appointed internally and confirmed by the Executive. The Administrator reports directly to the Executive.
