The Pale is the governing authority of the Chromatican City, established in the aftermath of Acheron’s dissolution. As the direct successor to Acheron in both personnel and organisational structure, the Pale functions as the central administrative, legislative, and security body responsible for overseeing the city.
Foundation
The Pale was formally instituted following the collapse of Acheron, inheriting not only its personnel but also its classified knowledge base, research infrastructure, and internal protocols. It was conceived as a necessary continuity structure to stabilise and govern the Chromatican City.
Functionality
The Pale is headquartered within the lower levels of the Spine. This positioning offers central access and control over urban logistics and governance, and acts as a containment and security barrier, preventing unauthorised access to the upper levels of the Spine.
Organisational Structure
The Pale is divided into multiple specialised departments, each tasked with managing a distinct aspect of city operations. At the apex of the Pale’s hierarchy is the Executive, the de facto head of government and chief administrator. The Executive is vested with broad authority, including oversight of all departmental operations and direct management of city-scale policy decisions.
The role of Executive is both powerful and burdensome, requiring constant supervision of not only bureaucratic functions but also the unpredictable interactions between the city, its citizens, and the outside. The Pale exercises total governance over the Chromatican City and maintains extraterritorial authority in all zones within operational reach.
